Testimonials

Rooted in neurodivergent, queer, and trauma-affirming values, our practice is built on trust and authenticity. Here’s how clients describe the impact of our work together.

For so long, I thought I was the only one who feels the way I feel, and then I met Kara and things slowly started making more sense. I feel like I belong. I don’t feel like I’m alone. Kara has helped me see that I am worthy of care and help.

Working with Kara has been transformative. As an adult who received a later neurodivergent diagnosis, Kara has been the compassionate and skilled clinician most needed during a time of self-reflection and discovery. I recommend Kara both for individual therapy as well as her groups. Both have offered broad perspectives to allow deeper processing. For most of my life, having gone from not feeling seen or heard, to participating in groups with supportive people who are also sharing in a journey has been an invaluable experience for me.

Kara is a great counselor for me, one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve only been seeing her for a few months; she’s changed me and my relationship. Given me hope I can improve. I’ve seen numerous therapists over the years (at least 5 this year) and Kara is the only one I think I’ll be with long term.

Not only are my individual sessions with Kara so helpful and healing, but also are the groups that she runs. Kara is very knowledgeable, empathic, inclusive, warm, inviting, and very relatable. All of her qualities as a therapist have helped me be more open, to which I feel like I am finally able to understand myself and my past better as well as heal from past traumas.

I have been seeing Kara for about 2 years both one on one and in several groups. She is always understanding and easy to talk to. Her passion for helping others is obvious in groups and during counseling and by her many payment options and sliding scales. I have learned a lot and look forward to learning and healing more. I can’t recommend her enough. My life is much better because of everything I have learned, and the people I have met in groups. The groups are informative and create a positive place for sharing and growth.

I was in and leaving a difficult relationship with codependency and coping issues on my part, and addiction and related issues on my partners part. I specifically sought Kara as a provider because of her experience on both sides of addiction issues, and I am so thankful that she is able to clearly help me navigate these issues with perspective. Having that robust and genuine understanding of situations, combined with her expertise in navigating the feelings and the path forward as such a tremendous help.

Kara is real, she is genuine, she is living the same struggles we all face, and she is still non-judgmental, forward-thinking, and an advocate to healthy positive change at your pace.

Never expecting to need or be willing to accept therapy, I found myself like so many unable to dig myself out of a deep, dark hole. I feel blessed to have found Kara A.Diefenderfer who has patiently, caringly, and educationally helped save my life through the last three years of individual, out-patient, and group therapy.

She’s taught me that mental disease doesn’t discriminate, strikes at any time, and demands consistent therapy and a regimented, self-care-routine. For me, it’s imperative to stay grounded and routine is everything. Kara has recommended podcasts, groups, videos, and books I needed to help me understand the battle I face every day.

Finally, having spent my life as an athlete, coach and athletic director, being tough was drilled into me at an early age. Unfortunately, with mental health disease, being tough I’ve learned is the worst characteristic to have. I had to learn to reach out, accept help, be vulnerable, and, most importantly, commit to the necessary work to stay as mentally healthy as possible.

Being tough means taking the steps (which are often difficult) to reach out for help and admitting it’s impossible to defeat alone.
